San Francisco Delta Gamma - Past Events

2011 Events

January 2011

Book Club
A fellow Delta Gamma hosted our January book club at her apartment as we discussed the Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins. This was a dark, but riveting series that kept you engaged and wanting more. If you weren't able to make our January book club, please Join us in March as we read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows.

Dine About Town
We enjoyed drinks at District before heading to our Dine About Dinner at Le Charm, a French bistro, located in the SOMA district. We hope to have another Dine About Town dinner in June. Please look for details in the spring.

DGs in the Kitchen
Truc Luu, local baker, hosted a DGs in the Kitchen event to teach us how to make some sweet treats just in time for Valentine's Day. We learned how to make creme brulee, chocolate molten cake, and strawberries dipped in chocolate. It was a very sweet afternoon!

Glaucoma Research Foundation Volunteer Event
The Glaucoma Research Foundation held their annual gala and auction at the Palace Hotel at the end of January. Delta Gamma collegians from UC Berkeley and UC Santa Clara and alumnae from San Francisco volunteered at this great event. It was a fun filled, successful fundraiser for the Glaucoma Research Foundation.

February 2011

Pilates
Traci Michaelson, Certified Pilates Instructor and fellow Delta Gamma, led us in a relaxing pilates session in the Mission District. This has been a popular event for the last two years and we have enjoyed learning pilates tricks from Traci. Thanks Traci!

Happy Hour
February happy hour took place at Oola La in the Mission District. Despite the rain, we had a great turn out at this quaint, but hopping restaurant. We all enjoyed great happy hour specials on food and drinks. Join us next time for our happy hour in April!

March 2011

Founder's Day
The San Francisco Alumnae headed over the Bay Bridge to celebrate Founder's Day with the collegians at Gamma Chapter, UC Berkeley. The women enjoyed a delicious brunch prepared by the cooks at the chapter house and proceeded to the award ceremony.

Book Club
Book club met in mid March to discuss The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Society. We enjoyed snacks and wine while we discussed our likes and dislikes of the book which was set during WW2.

California Council of the Blind Volunteer Opportunity
The SF DG Alumnae were invited to assist at the California Council of the Blind Alice Pardini Achievement Award Luncheon at the LightHouse in San Francisco. We served lunch to all of the members who attended and were able to congratulate this year's achievement award winners.

Night Life
At the end of March, the alumnae met for Night Life at the California Academy of Science. This was a fun way to explore the academy, catch up with friends, and enjoy happy hour.

Spring All Member Meeting & Foundation Night
Our spring All Member Meeting is a way for us to update our members on upcoming events, vote on new officers for the upcoming year, and enjoy learning more about one of the various Foundations that we support. Carmen Torres, from the Glaucoma Research Foundation was gracious enough to give us a presentation outlining the work that the GRF is involved with.

Check out our Awards page to see our alumnae award winners for 2010-2011. Check back in June to read bios for our new 2011-2012 officers.

April 2011

House of Air
We gathered together on a Sunday afternoon to check out the new House of Air facility. We spent the morning bouncing around on trampolines playing dodgeball and then proceeded to the Warming Hut at Chrissy Field to enjoy lunch by the water.

SF Moma
Thursday nights at SF Moma are half price ticket night; therefore we thought it would be fun to check out the "How Wine Became Modern" exhibit. It was very informative and enjoyable.

Blind Babies Foundation Beeper Easter Egg Hunt
The Blind Babies Foundation Beeper Easter Egg Hunt is a volunteer opportunity that we have been participating in for the last few years. It is an amazing experience that will keep you coming back each year. Every year we have volunteers who assist with set-up and take down, volunteering at the activity stations, and setting up the easter egg hunt. We hope you'll join us next year!

May 2011

Book Club
For our May book club, we read House Rules by best selling author Jodi Picoult. This was an intriguing novel giving us a glace into the world of autism. We hope you will pick up Year of the Fog by Michelle Richmond for our July book club.

Derby Days
Derby Days was our spring fundraiser that we held at The Republic. This was an open event where our male guests wore seersucker suits and our female guests wore sundresses and large hats. We watched the Kentucky Derby horse race, placed bets, and sipped on mint juleps. Our proceeds of $1,250 went to the Delta Gamma Foundation and Blind Babies Foundation. Thank you to everyone who supported the cause.

3rd Annual Wine Trip
In late May we enjoyed our 3rd Annual Wine Tasting Trip to Sonoma County where we stopped to do tastings at three wineries. We had a great turnout, enjoyed the sunshine, and tasted some amazing wine!

June 2011

Vision Walk
For the last three years our chapter has participated in the Vision Walk put on by the Foundation Fighting Blindness. This year was no different, except for the monsoon like weather. Despite the rain, we were able to gather a group of women and families to support the cause. Our chapter was able to raise $1,747, helping the Foundation Fighting Blindness raise $120,000 on the San Francisco walk alone. Thank you all for your support.

Dine About Town
Earlier this year we had a great time at Dine About Town. In fact, we had so much fun that we decided to plan another one in June. This month we went to Lulu's, just south of Market Street. We enjoyed a three course meal and great conversation.

July 2011

Brunch For New Members
In the past few years, we've had a lot of interest from new members in the Bay Area. We also have a lot of members who haven't been to events in quite some time. In order to accommodate each of our members, we've set up "new member" events. This time around it was a Saturday morning brunch at a local members apartment. If you are new to the area or want to jump back into the group, new member events are a great place to start!

Book Club - Year of the Fog
Year of the Fog was an outstanding novel that was based in San Francisco. We enjoyed some San Franciscan treat while discussing the in and outs of the novel. The setting made for an interesting read for us since it made reference to many locations throughout San Francisco.

August 2011

Happy Hour
This month happy hour was held at Local in the Financial District. We enjoyed snacks and cocktails while we caught up with one another.

Taco Tuesday-New Member Event
Taco Tuesday was a big hit with our new and returning members! The group enjoyed making tacos and meeting new members. If you are new to the area, new member meetings are a great place to meet other Delta Gammas in the area.

DGs go to the Movies
Through our book club, we often read books that are later turned into movies. Last year we read, "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett. In August, the movie was released and a group of us got together to go see the movie. It is highly recommended in book or movie form!

September 2011

GIANTS Game
Delta Gammas from around the Bay area got together, along with their friends, family, and significant others to watch the Giants play the Dodgers. This was our third year doing this event.

Book Club
In September, we read "Little Bee" by Chris Cleave. We gathered together for snacks and drinks to discuss the book.

Fall Kickoff BBQ
Our group got together on the Marina Green with friends, family, significant others, and of course, our cute K9s to enjoy a BBQ by the beach. Each fall, we gather to kick off another great year ahead.

October 2011

Happy Hour
We gathered at Marengo on Union to unwind from the busy work day. We enjoyed cocktails and appetizers as we caught up with other group members.

Zombie Nightlife at the Academy of Science
Nightlife at the Academy of Science is a fun activity for people of all ages. Since it was close to Halloween, we got to enjoy a Zombie themed Nightlife which gave it an interesting twist!

November 2011

Book Club
Our November book club choice was "A Dog's Purpose" by W. Bruce Cameron. We gathered together to discuss this interesting read while enjoying some snacks and wine.
